There are plenty of reasons to add a PS5 to your console collection. But if the epic specs, incredible games, and next-gen graphics aren’t quite enough to tip you over to the Sony side of the fence, there are a couple of other reasons why you should pick one up. And 2023 is the best time to do so.

Sony has a lot in store for us in the coming year, and the future is looking bright for PlayStation gamers. The PS5 has had a bumpy ride so far with chip shortages and limited stock, but 2023 could be its year.

1. It Should Be Easier Than Ever to Get a PS5 at RRP

The global chip shortage put a dampener on numerous projects all around the world. From gaming consoles to cars, computers, cameras, and smartphones, the number of industries that were affected was mind-boggling.

Many of these industries are still struggling to get on top of it, but Sony might not be one of them anymore as it's President, Jim Ryan, talked about the PS5 becoming easier to course at retailers at Sony's CES 2023 press conference (YouTube).

With such limited stock, scalpers were buying out many of the available consoles and selling them for exorbitant prices. Gamers that wanted to purchase a PS5 were either having to wait on extremely long waiting lists or give in to the scalpers and buy the console for double or sometimes triple the price.

With chips in Sony’s pocket, the company is going to be able to produce more stock to line the shelves of retailers. If you’ve been pining over a PlayStation 5, but you weren’t prepared to give scalpers the satisfaction of buying it for the price of a small car, 2023 is the best time to finally get one.

2. More Games Are Moving Away From Eighth-Gen Graphics

Sony's PlayStation 5 is an absolute beast that is packed with beefy specs. But one of the console's areas of expertise is the eye-melting graphics that it's capable of. This presents a perfect opportunity for developers to improve the graphical fidelity of their games. Eighth-gen graphics are good. But some of the graphics that these ninth-gen consoles are capable of are nothing short of mind-blowing.

Ninth-gen consoles like the PS5 and even the Xbox Series X|S got off to a rocky start with the chip shortage and global pandemic impacting sales. But as more gamers purchase next-gen consoles like the PS5, fewer developers will cater to the older generation of consoles. Technology waits for no one, after all. And the technology train is moving on from eighth-gen graphics whether you're on it or not.

3. More Cross-Gen Games Are Utilizing the Power of Ninth-Gen Consoles

Sony moves on to supporting its latest systems gradually. This gives consumers enough time to purchase the newest console. Not everyone is going to buy it on the first day. Reality exists, and people have responsibilities and commitments that may outweigh getting the latest PlayStation.

But the PlayStation 5 has been out for several years now, and Sony will inevitably start to turn its attention to its latest system. More and more games are released on the PS5 exclusively. That means that Sony and other developers can finally create games that take full advantage of the PS5’s impressive capabilities rather than catering to its older console.

Sony isn't discontinuing support for the PS4 any time soon. But as time goes on, more games are moving away from older technology and looking toward the future.

4. PS VR2 Is Coming to the PS5 in 2023

Virtual gaming has progressed in leaps and bounds, and Sony is part of that progression. The PS VR was an incredibly popular and technologically advanced piece of hardware, and Sony has been working hard on new and exciting ways to improve it.

The PS VR2 will far surpass the PS VR judging from everything we know about the PS VR2 so far. But, as you could imagine, the next-gen VR headset is only compatible with the next-gen console. The PS VR2 has been heavily anticipated, and it's coming in 2023. If you want to be on the front lines to experience the latest in VR console gaming, you are going to need to get yourself a PS5.

5. The DualSense Edge Could Transform PlayStation Gaming in 2023

The DualSense controller is incredible, to say the least. The features that are packed into that small package are at the forefront of controller technology. It has so many features in fact, that there are probably still a lot of things you might not know about your DualSense controller.

This all sounds amazing, and it is. But Sony is leveling up its controller game in 2023 with the DualSense Edge. What is the DualSense Edge? It is an elite controller that has even more to offer than the original DualSense does.

The DualSense Edge controller has all the features of the original DualSense, and more. It's also almost completely modular. This presents a unique opportunity to combat joystick drift, as instead of having to purchase a whole new controller when your sticks are drifting, you can simply take them out and replace them.

Its impressive specs could easily take gaming to the next level. If you want to have the most elite gaming experience possible, the best way to get it is by gaming on the PS5 with the DualSense Edge.

6. Many Amazing Exclusive Games Will Be Released on the PS5 in 2023

The main reason you should be buying a console is for the games. And many incredible PS5-exclusive games are coming to the console in 2023. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Stellar Blade are just a few examples of some of the amazing adventures that are coming to the system.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is one of the best games you can get on the PS5. So while Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 might very well be reason enough to get a PS5 in 2023, there's a good chance that even more incredible games coming to the system that we don’t even know about yet.

2023 Is Shaping Up to Be the Best Year Yet for the PS5

If there was ever a time to get a PS5, it is now. 2023 is bringing with it the PS VR2, the DualSense Edge controller, brand-new next-gen games, and, most importantly, more accessibility to the console itself.

Next time you walk into your games store and see that big white PS5 box winking at you from across the room, we wouldn’t blame you for beelining straight to it to experience all the great things 2023 has to offer for PlayStation 5 owners.
