UPDATE: Xbox Live is now back up and running after an outage lasting five hours.
If you are having trouble logging into your Xbox Live account at the moment, that is because the service is suffering a major outage.
Xbox Live Goes Down
A tweet from the Xbox Support Twitter account has confirmed that Xbox Live is currently experiencing multiple serious issues.
As we began to write this report, users were only experiencing issues with their account and profile, namely they could not sign in to their account.
However, now multiple services have suffered a major outage too, including store and subscriptions, multiplayer gaming, and cloud gaming.
What Devices Do The Major Outage Affect?
According to the Xbox.Com Xbox Status page, the major outage applies to the following devices and services.
- Xbox Series X/S
- Xbox One consoles
- Cloud gaming
- Android devices
- Apple devices
- Xbox on Windows
- Xbox 360
- Web Services
So, all Xbox devices currently cannot sign into Xbox Live, as well as performing a range of additional tasks. These include purchasing games and playing online multiplayer titles.
What Is Microsoft Doing About the Outage?
The status page says that Microsoft is currently working on fixing the problems that are currently plaguing users. While it resolves these issues, it is best to remain patient and not continuously try to log into Xbox Live.
Currently, the resolution status shows as "Pending". This means that we don't know when Xbox will manage to overcome the issues Xbox Live is currently experiencing.
Xbox Live Will (Hopefully) Be Running Again Soon
We have no further updates from Xbox Support at this point. As mentioned, try to stay patient and understanding while Xbox fixes the issue.
Xbox Live is huge, so any outages like this will have a major impact on the gaming community. Don't forget, though, it is just like any other form of technology; it isn't perfect and can encounter issues from time to time.
