Does Windows Vista Home Basic leave shadow copies of deleted files behind? If so, wouldn't it be an easy way to recover space just to delete the "shadow"?

I'm not sure if you mean by a shadow copy. If you mean a second copy, the only way it does this is if you delete it to the Recycle Bin or if you have something creating backups. However, when you delete files, you are actually only deleting the index of it. This leaves the actual data on the drive until it is overwritten, but it won't show up in any file browser. If the space used for the data hasn't been overwritten yet, it can be recovered by some software like Recuva by Piriform, the makers of CCLeaner. CCleaner also lets you completely erase files by overwriting the space where the file was with it's "Wipe free space" option.Does this answer your question, or did I miss what you mean?

HiWell if a restore point was created then deleted files can be restored from it.Sometimes after deleting files then some traces will be left and the normal pc user will not be able to see the trace. There are some softs that are able to clean that for instance some soft propose clean unused space functionality then another soft are defrag fonction.Recover Files with Shadow Copies on Any Version of Windows Vista http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/recover-files-with-shadow-copies-on-any-version-of-windows-vista/Recover Deleted Files From Windows Volume Shadow Copy Fileshttp://ezinearticles.com/?Recover-Deleted-Files-From-Windows-Volume-Shadow-Copy-Files&id=4686617Download Shadow Explorerhttp://www.shadowexplorer.com/
