When I click the shutdown button on my PC it closes all the applications and hangs, displaying the message "shutting down", but it wont turn off the CPU. I was forced to click turn off button on CPU. What should I do?

It is probably a specific program that is failing to shutdown correctly and causing the computer to hang. I suggest turning off some of the programs running in your taskbar before shutting down, and see if that makes a difference.
