I want to use Windows Movie Maker for manipulating MP4, M4v and DivX video files. I installed K-lite 64-bit codec on my PC. I use Windows 7 64-bit. The movie maker is still not able to read these files. I have no idea what else might be needed. Can anyone enlighten me please?

Guys, thanks for all the answers and help but I searched google and used trial version of Video charge studio. There is 20 days free trial and it worked like a charm !I still do not know what the problem with Movie maker is but it is not with codecs and my job is done anyway. It is a one off need for me. If I were using it regularly, I would probably buy itThanks again.

I should also mention this (tried it just now), Windows movie maker is able to take some files of same type, but not others. It accepted some MP4 files, but not other MP4 files. I don't know why.

Hello, probably the reason it takes some MP4 files but not others, is because of the encoding used and the equipment used to encode it. There are many possible encoding options, but not all encode options follow the standards.

I tried. There are no "Tools" "options" etc in Windows Movie Maker. It is 2011 build and has no Tools tab (or anything equivalent at all.In K - lite folder, there is tools, then "codec tweak tool" and "win7Ds filter tweaker". If you open them, whatever needs to be checked is checked.I also tried ffdshow video tweaker in K-lite folder. Checked all boxes in the left side of the window. No luck after all this.Pl help !

HiAfter installing klite 64bits codechttp://www.codecguide.com/klcp_64bit.htmgo to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, then COMPATABILITY, and then RESTORE DEFAULTS. make sure ALL boxes are checked (TOOLS > OPTIONS>COMPATIBILITY> CHECK ALL BOXES INCLUDING FDDSHOW VIDEO DECODER.), this will help. ffdshow tryoutshttp://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
