Hello, is this a new installation?  or a new computer?  Usually if it is a new computer built by a manufacturer like dell, hp, toshiba, etc., it will validate by itself first time it recognizes internet access.  If it is a new clean installation, you have 30 days to validate it.  Make sure to validate within that time, if not, your license might not be recognized or you could end up with problems validating license.  Easiest way is by doing the following:-- click on start-- type activate windows in search box-- click on enter-- there should be a message telling you activation was succesfulYou have another way of doing this by going online to following link:http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validateIf you need to check for activation, try the following:-- click on start + Pause/Break key at same time-- at bottom of screen that pops up, under Windows Activation header-- Check if it says Windows is Activated
