Why does Windows not detect my external hard disk that works fine on my Mac?
I'm using VMware.

You need to install a new filesystem driver for HFS+ drives in your VM. Windows cannot understand the drive format. Paragon Software has
HFS+ for Windows
that runs around $20 and provides read-write access to both MBR and GPT drives. It works with Windows XP and later.

If it's Mac formatted (i.e. HFS+) then it will not be readable to Windows. The PC can read NTFS (modern Windows format) as well as several versions of FAT (older and universal filing systems), but not Mac- or Linux-formatted discs.
