After booting (takes a lot longer than it used to) the computer runs for a while. Can't find any reason for last shutdown, then it just goes to charcoal screen (not black) and I have to power down with switch.

Is it the hard drive? It's been happening more often lately.

Hello, does the computer give you any blue screens lately?  Have you checked in event viewer?  What is your operating system?  Can you try accesing  safemode to see if computer runs ok without shutting down?  To do so, restart computer and keep pressing F8 key.  Select safemode and try to run your computer like that for a while just to check if it shuts down or not. Most times when computer gets really slow, it could be because the harddrive has many errors or you can be infected with virus/malware.  Have you checked your computer for virus/malware lately?  It could also be due to heat.  Have you checked inside your tower lately?  make sure you do, and also make sure to clean any dust covering fans, vents, etc.
