I let my grandson use my Acer laptop. He changed the password and cannot remember the password he used.

How can I unlock my computer without the password? It is useless to anybody this way. Thanks.

If you use one of the Linux based password deleting utilities and it doesn't work the first time, run it again. For some reason the first try sometimes doesn't take. The newer utilities work with XP, Vista and Windows 7.

The easiest way is to use a program called konboot. It enables you to log into a windows based system without knowing the password. First of all, download it from here: http://digiex.net/downloads/download-center-2-0/applications/6498-kon-boot-password-utility-free-version.htmlYou will need to run it on a different machine. It requires a pen-drive, which will be the medium for running the program. You simply run it, and it ask for the drive letter of the pen-drive. When that is done, insert it into the computer and boot from the pen-drive. It automatically logs into the windows system. Now what you'll need to do after is to run command prompt as administrator. Type the following: net user (username of the system) *It'll prompt for a password, not the old one but the new one you'll like to use. enter it, then again to confirm, and that is all. :)

Hello, what version of windows are you using? There are several ways of accomplishing what you want depending on the operating system in use. The only thing I would suggest for the future, is to let your grandson use the computer but only with a guest account, not as an administrator.

Free program great for windows also works on other OS PCLogin.com down ISO files burn ISO CD print guide of instruction of step by step process to use ISO to break old password. After restart, set new password. There is a few different process listed make sure to follow right one for your system. Computer shops in my area hate it. They tell everyone there is no software to do this, so they can charge for about five hours lobor. they say thats how long its takes to break a system password. After burning ISO disk, 20 mins. PC up and running with new password. I am so glad I seen this post I want everyone to know about PCLogin password breaker. Keep grandson away from PC or teach him to use PCLogin.

Many people forgot to create a password reset disk when they create the logon password, so they got locked out computer is not surprised. But there still has solution to help them, third-party software: Rekeysoft Windows Password Recovery. It works efficiently to remove a lost password. See it: http://goo.gl/UNF2T

There are different ways for different versions of Windows to reset the password. In XP it is very easy for example. You need to let us know which version you are using.
