I am getting a black screen when Windows 7 boots, and then I get the password screen. I am using Windows 7 Home Basic, does anyone know why this occurs?

Hello, does the computer finish booting up ok after you type your password?  If it does, you can follow the process described in a previous post:http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/windows-computer-boot-black-screen/Similar posts:http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/black-screen-death/If your computer boots up after you enter your password, you could try enabling boot logging.  One of the best ways to troubleshoot startup problems in windows is by setting a boot log. When you set up a boot log, it creates a file on your c:WINDOWS drive. The name for the file created is Ntbtlog.txt. On this file, it lists all the drivers that load at startup. For every driver that loads successfully it will add an entry on the file and also it will let you know if a driver failed to load. There are two ways of setting xp to create a boot log:-- start-- run-- type msconfig-- Click on boot.ini tab-- Check mark /BOOTLOG-- Check Or you can do it by pressing the F8 when restarting:-- Restart computer-- Press F8-- Select Enable Boot loggingMake sure to check the file after you turn the computer on, whether it restarts as it should or not. Maybe it can give you clues to possible problems.   Have you tried starting  your computer in safemode.  Just keep pressing F8 key when you start computer.  Once you try it, does the computer start ok?  You could also try loading the Last known configuration that worked in the Advance recovery option that appear when you press F8 at startup. Also, make sure to check if there is any media in your DVD/CD Drive.  Most times, if your computer is setup to startup from CD/DVD and there is a disk in the cd/dvd drive the computer will not start up because is trying to read a non bootable disk.  Let us know what happens. Also if you logging ok, you could try the following:-- press either Ctrl+Shift+Esc, or Ctrl+Alt+Delete.-- click on task manager-- go to processes and look for Explorer.exe, if you do not find it don't worry-- if it is there, right click on it and click on end process-- click on file and select new task-- type Explorer.exe and press okThis should force the GUI to load.
