If you're a Windows server administrator, you're no stranger to Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT). But if you're coming off Windows 10 and making the jump to Windows 11, you might have noticed that there's no option to download RSAT for your new operating system on the Microsoft website. That's because you can install these tools from within Windows 11.
Here's how to install RSAT all from within Windows 11.
How to Install RSAT in Windows 11
The easiest way to install RSAT is through Windows 11's settings. So right-click on Windows and choose Settings. From there, select Apps and then Optional features.
On the Add an optional feature option (the first one on the page), click the View features button on the right to bring out a pop-up for installing RSAT features.
To find the tools you need, type RSAT in the search box at the top. You'll then see a list of the RSAT features you can install on your computer. Tick the ones you want and then click Next.
Then, verify the RSAT features you want to install and click on Install.
The pop-up will close, and you'll be able to see the download progress of the features in the Recent actions section.
You can see all the RSAT features you've installed by right-clicking Start and choosing Windows Terminal (Admin) to open the Windows Terminal app. You'll get a prompt from UAC, and you should click Yes to let the app make changes to your PC.
To avoid the UAC prompt, you should install RSAT using the built-in administrator account.
Then, copy and paste the below command in Windows Terminal and hit the Enter key.
Get-WindowsCapability -Name RSAT* -Online | Select-Object -Property DisplayName, State
Once the command executes, you'll see the list of all the RSAT features and their state.
How to Uninstall RSAT Features in Windows 11
You can uninstall the RSAT features by navigating to the Optional features page in the settings. Scroll down to the Installed features section, select the feature you want to uninstall, and click on the Uninstall button.
