If I am on windows 8 and I want to upgrade to 8.1 through the standalone ISO which will be available to download rather than through the Windows Store. Will I be able to upgrade without having to re-install my desktop apps?

I have some complaints about the upgrade process from 8 to 8.1. The process was seamless, but three irritating things happened: First, Microsoft inexplicably changed my login password to the same password as my Live account password. There's absolutely no reason for them to have done this.Second, the upgrade requires a secondary validation key. You can't use your Windows 8 key to validate 8.1, as far as I know, at least. Mine didn't work.Third, MS tries to enroll you in their cloud service, Skydrive, during the setup process. I'm not particularly happy with Microsoft's security at the moment. Other than that, there weren't any problems associated with the upgrade.

@Hovsep, I too have heard complains about Office 2013 rejecting original licneses on Windows 8.1 whereas it works fine on Windows 8.Maybe it is because Microsoft upgraded their KMS Client version to 6. Who knows! I have very little knowledge regarding this... :|

It *should* work just fine, but so far we've only seen the preview, rather than the real thing, so I'd suggest you back up your system thoroughly before starting.
