Is Google Hangouts new SMS feature a prelude to a full-blown data messaging app?
Will Google Hangouts evolve into a messaging app along the lines of Whatsapp, Viber, Line, etc?
I've read other blogs earlier which mentioned a few weeks back that Google's messaging app is becoming similar to Whatsapp.

Please tell ,1) how come the article titles the messenger as Whatsapp-like when the messenger has only sms+mms ( phone operator messaging functionality ) and not whatsapp like internet-messaging functionality?2) Do you foresee whatsapp enabling "like" / "comment" / "share" in group messsages? , multiple messages in whatsapp groups get disarrayed and it is haphazard for user to like or comment a specific post within milleu of multiple messages

well maybe the new application will take another path than hangouts for instance

In order for it to become like that,many people have to get Hangouts app preinstalled.Google also has to remove such annoyances that many reviwers have found.
