My Laptop (Toshiba with Windows XP), detects Pendrives but cannot open even a single one. I checked the pen drives and found that they work on other laptops. When I put the flash drive in my laptop it gives a name authomaticaly by itself, such as hh (F:).

There are two tools that can help you with this, both from http://www.nirsoft.net. The first is called USBDeview and it lists all USB devices that have ever been used on your system. Run it, and list the devices by type (by clicking on the "Device type" column heading). Delete all the "Mass storage" devices, quit and restart your system. This may solve the problem. If not, try the second program, called "USBLogView". Run it, plug in one of your USB drives and observe the log. There should be two lines, one telling you the USB drive has been plugged in, and the other showing it being mapped to a drive letter. If the second line is missing or indicates an error, go into Windows Disk Management (Click Start=>Run..., type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK, then on the left click Disk Management), right-click on the drive and see if you can change the drive letter. If both lines are missing from the log, let us know and we'll try to suggest other solutions.
