YouTube has introduced a new design with interesting changes and features. However, there are a lot of users that still don't like it. Plus, it's brought a lot more problems than benefits. Here's everything you need to know.

YouTube Gets a Makeover

In October 2022, YouTube announced it would redesign its platform. According to YouTube's announcement, "there was a desire for a cleaner, more lively design that better represents what we're all about."

YouTube tried to deliver a new design along with some cool features like ambient mode, pinch-to-zoom, and precise seeking.

All these changes and features are meant to improve the user experience on the YouTube app. However, it seems like this update has brought more problems than benefits.

Why People Hate YouTube's New Design

Granted, not a lot of people like it when big platforms change their user interface. However, many people all over the internet, especially on Twitter and Reddit, have a pretty strong opinion about these YouTube changes. These are some of the most common reasons why people hate YouTube's design.

1. Videos Not Showing if Your Watch History Is Off

Pausing your YouTube watch history is a good way to stop YouTube from tracking your activity. Before, you could disable your watch history without any issues. However, after the update, it seems Youtube added new restrictions.

Some people have shared that the YouTube app won't show any videos on their feed. Instead, they see a YouTube message saying that their watch history is off and they should turn it on to get personalized recommendations.

2. People Can't Access Their Downloaded Videos

One of the reasons why YouTube Premium is worth it is that you can easily download YouTube videos with a few taps.

However, people have complained that their YouTube downloads are unavailable. After the update, some users couldn't play some of the videos they downloaded. Unfortunately, there's nothing users can do, so we'll need to wait for YouTube to solve this issue.

3. A Lot of Features Randomly Stop Working

With a new design, there will be a few bugs and issues at the beginning. However, the new YouTube design has brought a lot of issues that people completely hate.

For starters, sometimes you can't select the channels from the search results, which completely defeats the purpose of searching for something.

Moreover, some people complained that you couldn't see the replies. Others have noticed they can't watch YouTube Shorts. They can access them and change Shorts, but the videos don't play.

The good news is that YouTube is probably already working on ways to fix the most common bugs and issues, so it'll be a matter of waiting until there's another update.

4. You Can’t Sort Videos by Oldest Anymore

This isn't such a new issue. YouTube has been trying to get rid of the "sort by oldest" option on YouTube channels since the beginning of 2022, and with this new update, it seems no one can use this feature anymore, whether you're on mobile or using YouTube on your desktop.

Now, you can only sort videos by Recently uploaded and Popular, which makes it pretty hard to find older videos from your favorite creators.

YouTube’s New Design Is a Work in Progress

There's no doubt that YouTube's new design brought a lot of problems. While many people like the new design, there are still a lot of issues that are breaking the user experience worldwide. Hopefully, YouTube will fix these issues soon. If not, we might need to start looking at some alternatives.
