We have a Dell Inspiron PC with Windows Vista. We also use Google Chrome. We were able to receive and answer messages and chat. Just recently we get messages but cannot respond and chat has completely stopped. Is there a setting we need to do to reactivate both? We are able to receive and read about 10 notifications and when we reach the end and click on more stories nothing happens.

If you installed some chrome extensions, try disabling those. They can interfere with the programs. If you're using desktop clients, try re-installing them. Clear your cache too. Or you can try using another browser first, like Firefox. While you're at it, can you elaborate further? You mentioned about notifications, but you didn't mention if they were email, browser extension/add-on, desktop or Facebook notifications. Try being more specific!

Some things to add to the other possible answers. Make sure that your flash client is up to date. Facebook relies heavily on flash and javascript. Try also clear the cache of your browser (Ctrl+Shift+Del) and try again. If that doesn't work, try disabling any and all extensions that you may have installed in chrome. To do this, go to this url in your browser: chrome://chrome/extensions/ Then go through and disable all of them (uncheck the 'enabled' box next to each extension). If you do not have any extensions installed, then try it in another browser. If it works in another browser then you know it's Chrome that's at fault. A uninstall/reinstall should fix it. If it does occurr in another browser, then it's something with your machine. Again, look at flash and make sure it's up to date (you can go to: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html) and update it from that page as well (or try filehippo.com, I use that site religiously for flash updates).Check if Facebook works, if it does then go back and re-enable them one by one and you should find your culprit (if it's from your extensions). Unfortunately there are myriad reasons that this can happen, but eventually you should figure it out with all the help on here.Remember to report back if anything has worked, or what your findings are so we can help you fix this issue once and for all!

You might need to double check the settings on the Desktop version of Facebook. I ran into this same problem, and I needed to check the Notifications setup and make some changes to that. That may due the trick. (Don't have an iPod touch, so I'm not sure how the settings for that would affect Facebook however).
