Thanks to all. All the software fixes were worthless. It seems to be a hardware problem, with overheating as the cause. Cleaned the machine out as Zacatecas, Mexico, where I live is an extremely dusty place. In addition, I used to be a smoker (I've since quit. More than 6 months, YAY ).The cleaning helped and a friend who is a computer repair tech checked ot the MoBo and did a bit of repair. 1Works, thank you very much.

Some laptops with integrated graphics experience failure of solder connection of GPU to motherboard due to heating/cooling cycle. When hot, GPU loses contact and computer shuts down. If this is your problem, the motherboard has to be replaced.

My guess would be overheating, try opening it up and cleaning it out.

If you've tried suggestions below and the problem persists, open Windows scheduler. You (or one of your programs) might set automatic shut down. Locate and remove the entry. What happened before it started to behave strangely? What did you recently do? It'd help if you give more details.

Are you a smoker? Dust and smoke can build up in computers and laptops very quickly especially if you or your cleaning person, if you have one, doesn't dust the area where you computer is. Dust causes overheating.Try opening up the case to the motherboard and blasting it out with compressed air. Check also to see if the fan is coming on at all. Maybe it is just dead. Finally you can buy extra laptop cooling fans which you put under your machine and which sends away the heat that builds up under your laptop. Maybe the surface your laptop rests on is heating up too much. A quick fix might be to prop up the back of the machine to allow air flow underneath. If you look on Amazon, CoolMaster appears to make highly rated laptop cooling pads with fans.

Firstly, clean your laptop for any dust because they clog up fans required for effective cooling.Secondly,if comfortable, try applying aftermarket heat paste like Artic Silver-5 or any other reputed brands' solution.See the video link below for disassembling your laptop and this would help you clean it -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghSf6ALBUV4&feature=player_embedded

Run a SFC scan. There is a windows file known as sfc.exe and sfc stands for system file checker. It is used to repair Windows System Files. Run it from the command window. sfc may have to be run along-with some parameters passed. Also be warned, that the process may take a few hours to complete, depending on the situation. Sounds like overheating?! Check the windows system log (control panel). It might tell you more ;)
