I found an article by Saikat Basu that describe 5 ways to Print Folder and Directory Contents.
I wanted to print a list of my files in a folder. Of the five ways discussed within the article I chose to use the one that starts with instructions to create a batch file in Notepad by pasting the following text: @echo off . I followed the instructions verifying by comparing the photos of the screen that should and did come up. When I completed following the instructions I went to a folder and the choice of Print Directory Listing appeared. I clicked that on and my computer locked up.
I tried everything and managed to unlock the computer but I don't remember how I did it. So I decided to uninstall the program. After I uninstalled the program when I clicked the Start menu I could not access My Computer, Control Panel or the other functions on that side of the screen. I noticed the screen would flash and a black background message appeared when I managed to time pressing the Function button and Pause button at the same time. The message that appeared was:
"'DIRGN' IS NOT RECOGNIZED AS AN INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL COMMAND OPERABLE PROGRAM OR BATCH FILE." The title of the screen was "C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe"
I believe this is the command that is not allowing me to access My Computer, Control Panel etc. The only way I can access these features is to right click the Start menu and click on Explore. In this menu the "print file" command appears, and when I click it I get the flashing screen that again (if I time it perfectly) I get the above statement.
I have tried everything I know and also took my computer, a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop with Windows XP to a individual that is a programmer and he could not eliminate the statement. The right click and choose Explore method I use to access my computer was worked out with this individual.
We reloaded the "@echo off" program again then uninstalled it again hoping to catch that DIRGN note and that didn't work. So I am stuck with working around using the right click Start menu to access My Computer so I can access my flash drives.
What do I do to eliminate that "DIRGN" note if that is what is causing the problem or further getting my computer to work correctly?
I am not a programmer or computer literate enough so I will need detailed instructions. Please help!
Thank you for your assistance,
James
P.S. I also would still like to print out the file lists on my folders. Is there a better program to do this?
