I am looking for clean software for Windows 7 and Windows XP. These days a lot of software comes bundled with other packages which change browser settings or add other software which consumes system resources uselessly. I want to find sources without the additional bundled software and toolbars.

I found this nice tool, though still in beta stages, that monitors and allows you to easily find and uninstall toolbars and add-ons: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/antitoolbar.html. Anti-Toolbar seems to fit the bill because there are times that it is unavoidable to get software that includes extra junk installers, and the wording can become more difficult to understand during installation. Anyways, check it out and see if it is something that could help you.

Softpedia.com. They are informing users if any of the software comes with some junk.

http://download.cnet.com/windows/to avoid additional bundled software and toolbars select the category of software you want and then sort them with user ratings or what fits you most and I don't think that those additional bundled software and toolbars are to annoy you they can be the only source of income for the programmer of that software and to avoid the Cnet installer just click on the name of software not download button and then on the next page select direct download link

http://www.snapfiles.com/ - I don't think they allow attached adware. Also they review the software they list.

If you don't want add-ons to be installed automatically then download software directly from developers website. You can check download sites to check the feedback and ratings of the software from users.

I see very few sites that offer software downloads without the added crapware. For most of the ones I use when setting up new systems for people, I download the software from the developer's site. Some of them offer a 'clean' or 'slim' download version. Piriform does this for CCleaner, Recuva, etc, so I keep it bookmarked. You may need to search the developer's site to find these clean versions but when you do find them, bookmark the location so you can return to it when you want to grab the latest version.

ThanksPl note , that these days many developer pages lead to download.cnet which then asks to first install their download manager which then loads the software which then changes browser settings and adds few software

http://www.majorgeeks.com is one of the better places to go to. They test all of the software they list for download and mention whether there are questionable installers added into the main installation. http://www.softpedia.com is another good place, though care should be used when downloading, so read the reviews and notes. http://www.filehippo.com is another great place, though their repository is not as extensive as the others. I would be cautious with http://download.cnet.com since their quality control is not that great, and warnings about viruses, malware, or toolbars are not provided as well as it should be. I also do not like how some of the software installers from there requires CNET's download manager to get the download link so that you can download the actual software you originally wanted. I stay away from Download.com as much as possible (sometimes it is hard to avoid).
