VW has already taken a major leap in the EV world by creating its Electrify America charging infrastructure. Now the giant German automaker is hoping to capitalize on its massive charging infrastructure with new EV releases. VW already sells various electric models in the EU, but their US lineup will get a major jolt with new upcoming models.

So, which Volkswagen EV models can be purchased in the US? And what EV models are coming to the US in the future? We'll also cover European EV models from VW, so if you're interested in a Volkswagen EV, this article has you covered.

VW's US Electric Vehicle Lineup

ID.4

VW currently sells the ID.4 in the US, but the vehicle is experiencing massive wait times due to supply chain issues.

The vehicle must be reserved if you want to buy it. Furthermore, as per the Financial Times, VW CEO Herbert Diess said that VW is basically sold out of electric vehicles for 2022 in Europe and the US. This is an especially frustrating development for Volkswagen because most of its projected growth in the US market is expected to come from EV sales.

We are basically sold out on electric vehicles in Europe and in the United States. And in China, it's really picking up.

Perhaps Volkswagen's plans to start producing the ID.4 in their Chattanooga plant will help alleviate some of its supply issues. Regardless, 2022 has been an amazing year for EVs, with many exciting models available.

In terms of what the ID.4 offers, the base RWD ID.4 Pro rings in with an MSRP of $41,230, and federal tax credits will bring that price down to $33,730. The 2022 RWD ID.4 Pro serves up a decent 275 miles of range from its 77kWh battery. The motor puts out 201 hp and 229 Lb-ft.

The AWD Pro and Pro S models offer a slightly reduced range and a higher asking price, along with more power in the form of 295 hp from the dual electric motors. Performance isn't exactly Plaid level, but the AWD dual-motor version offers more than adequate power with its almost 300 hp.

In terms of convenience, the ID.4 has you covered, as the body style is basically a crossover-type vehicle, so the interior is roomy. Speaking of the interior, even the base model Pro comes nicely equipped with heated seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, and customizable LED ambient lighting.

ID. Buzz

Volkswagen's iconic van is getting a revival in the shape of the ID. Buzz. The European market will get the ID. Buzz first, with the US having to wait until 2023 for its official unveiling and most likely until 2024 to actually purchase one.

This all-electric van comes with fun styling that will definitely stand out from the crowd in an eco-friendly manner. The ID. Buzz rides on the same platform as the ID.4 and also shares the same power output from its single motor. Not only this, but it even has a cameo in an amazing Star Wars commercial.

e-Golf

Unfortunately, the e-Golf has been discontinued, but you can still buy one new if you find a 2019 model sitting on dealer lots (or you could pick up a second-hand EV).

The e-Golf enjoys the same great traits that make the regular Golf a standout, with the addition of an electric powertrain. The e-Golf is more of a city tourer due to its limited range of approximately 125 miles, but if you love the Golf and you're into EVs, you can't go wrong with e-Golf.

VW's European EV Lineup

ID.3

The ID.3 sold in the EU is a smaller vehicle than the ID.4 VW currently sells in the US. The ID.3 is available with three battery choices, the smallest being a 45kWh battery, followed by a 58kWh battery offering a European estimated 259 miles of range. The other battery option is a 77kWh battery offering a European estimated 341 miles of range.

The ID.3 is a sleek and sporty-looking vehicle with a high-quality interior. VW calls it the ID.3 because, according to them, it's their third big idea, behind the Beetle and the original Golf. Obviously, these are lofty standards for the ID.3, but the vehicle is a great start to VW's electric future.

ID.5

The ID.5 is basically the coupe version of the ID.4. It should come as no surprise that the ID.4 gets a coupe version now that every SUV under the sun has an equivalent sloped-roof twin. The MEB platform and the mechanicals are shared between the two vehicles, and most of the styling is nearly identical.

The ID.5 is available with a 77kWh battery which is also available for the European ID.4 model range. A quick look at the online configurator for VW's UK site reveals that a RWD ID.5 Tech Pro model sells for an excess of $66,000.

e-up!

The e-up! is an affordable alternative to VW's other electric vehicles. According to a February press release by Volkswagen's Newsroom, demand was so high for the e-up! that Volkswagen had to stop taking orders for the electric city-car because order wait times had risen to 16 months. But, if you're looking for an e-up! you might be in luck because the same report states that the tiny EV will once again begin selling in Germany first, with a reintroduction in the rest of Europe to follow.

The tiny car offers a European estimated range of 159 miles from its 36.8kWh battery. Plus, the motor puts out approximately 80 hp and 155 Lb-ft, so you won't be winning any street races with the e-up! any time soon, but it is a great car for city drivers that charge their vehicle every other day.

Volkswagen's Future is Electric

VW has been working extremely hard to position itself as a leader in the EV segment, and it's well on its way with the ever-expanding Electrify America network, and its growing range of EVs. VW has also partnered with various EV manufacturers to offer free charging via Electrify America for a stipulated amount of time.

It's always great when you can find ways to charge your EV free of charge, and VW is helping people do that. VW is heading in the right direction with its electric vehicle lineup, even in the US, despite the supply chain issues that have caused delays in deliveries of the ID.4 EV.

If demand is any indication, VW made the right call when deciding to sell the ID.4 in the states, seeing as how it's essentially a small crossover SUV, a body style that sells like crazy in the States. With the ID. Buzz on the way to the US market, as well as the rumored much larger three-row ID.8 SUV, VW continues to look towards an all-electric future.
