Many people buy electric vehicles because they want to help curb emissions, but skipping the gas station is also a huge perk. Saving money at the pump is a great incentive for many people on the fence about buying an EV.

Electric vehicle manufacturers are sweetening the deal by adding free charging to your EV purchase. Automakers will sell you a new EV with charging perks, and the competition is heating up.

1. 2023 VW ID.4

The ID.4 is made by Volkswagen, and VW owns Electrify America, so it's not a shock that the ID.4 offers a generous free-charging perk. Simply saying the ID.4 is included with free charging is a disservice to what VW is actually packaging.

Many EV manufacturers lure customers in by offering free charging, but when you read the fine print, you only get a few kWh. In the ID.4's case, VW is throwing in three years of free 30-minute charging sessions with Electrify America (obviously).

This is the EV equivalent of getting free gas station fill-ups for three years. It's almost unbelievable that VW is actually going through with this, and prospective EV owners should definitely take a serious look at the ID.4.

Just think how much three years of free charging can bring down the cost of ownership. Also, it's not like you're buying a mediocre EV for the free charging either. The ID.4 is one of the best EV SUVs for sale. VW has a winner with the ID.4, especially as an overall package. The ID.4 strikes a Goldilocks-like balance, it's not the best at any particular thing, but it's definitely a competent EV in most categories.

2. Porsche Taycan

VW throwing in free charging for the modestly priced ID.4 is a great incentive, but customers of the upmarket Porsche Taycan probably aren't too concerned about the free charging perk.

Regardless, the Porsche Taycan also gets the same three years of free charging with Electrify America. Of course, Porsche is part of the VW corporate umbrella, so it's no surprise that the free charging provider will be Electrify America.

Again, it's crazy that manufacturers are offering free charging for such a long window. This is one of the many benefits of owning an EV because it's almost unthinkable that a conventional car would include three years of free gasoline.

In terms of the car itself, the Porsche Taycan isn't the cheapest EV out there, and it's also not an EV that gives you tons of bang for your buck. The range is lackluster compared to its price, especially as you move up the price ladder.

The only real argument to be made for purchasing a Taycan Turbo S instead of a Model S Plaid is the Porsche "pedigree." But that doesn't sound like a good enough reason to excuse its shortcomings. Although, three years of free charging just might do the trick.

3. Audi e-tron GT

The e-tron GT is the Porsche Taycan's more attractive brother. Audi makes some of the best-looking vehicles on the road, especially its line of EVs. But, with the e-tron GT, Audi has constructed one of the most beautiful sedans ever.

This doesn't just include EVs, either. The e-tron GT is truly a work of art in terms of design. Not only is the e-tron GT way better looking than the Taycan, but it also includes the same three years of free charging with Electrify America.

The e-tron GT has the same pros and cons as the Taycan. The vehicle is amazing to look at, it drives great, and is super powerful. But, its range is nothing to write home about, while the price is right up there with the most expensive electric sedans.

It's a good thing that the Audi is a VW product because the three years of free charging sessions are something that could sway a lot of people. Although, it's difficult to see many people choosing the Audi over a Tesla or a Lucid product unless they're die-hard Audi fanatics.

4. Hyundai IONIQ 5

Hyundai's IONIQ 5 is widely considered among the best EV value propositions and is definitely the crown jewel of Hyundai's EV lineup. It's not difficult to see why either. The IONIQ 5 offers great range, a stylish design, and an accessible price point.

If you think you need to spend big bucks on an EV to stand out, the IONIQ 5 says otherwise. The design of this vehicle is super futuristic and looks like nothing else. It also features super-fast charging and free charging perks as well.

The IONIQ 5 is a great vehicle for a road trip, especially with two years of free 30-minute charging sessions with Electrify America. Electrify America seems to be the common theme among many vehicles that include free charging perks, and it's undeniable that VW is doing everything in its power to bring attention to its charging network.

The best marketing is giving away free stuff. It's not much of a shock that the vehicles outside the VW corporate umbrella don't enjoy the same charging perks via Electrify America as VW's own stable of EVs.

But this is to be expected, and two years of free EV charging isn't shabby. These incentives will probably have more people forgoing charging at home and simply popping up at the nearest Electrify America station to make the most of their free charging sessions.

5. Kia EV6

The Kia EV6 and the IONIQ 5 are two of the most unique-looking vehicles on the road. The Kia EV6 is a little less adventurous in its styling but not boring by any stretch of the imagination.

Both vehicles present great value propositions, although Kia's free charging incentive isn't as attractive as the IONIQ 5's three years. The EV6 includes 1000 kWh worth of free charging via Electrify America.

Again, we're not sure why Kia couldn't get a proper collaboration with Electrify America. Perhaps Hyundai didn't allow it because this vehicle competes very closely with the IONIQ 5. Regardless, the EV6 is a great-looking EV with amazing performance.

The EV6 is even available as an ultra-fast hatchback in its GT specification. It's a Kia that can embarrass more than a few supercars; it's just a shame that the free charging plan isn't more comprehensive.

Get Your Free EV Charging Perks While You Still Can

Electrify America is doing a great job partnering with automakers to offer free charging. It's not clear how long these perks will last, so if you're in the market for an EV, now seems like a great time to swoop one up.
