Your habits! If you use your phone only for minimal calls and messages, it would be something like screen, android service, the network. If you watch movies on it regularly, it would vary and be screen, the movie playing app, then other services. If you use it to play games a few hours a day it would then be screen, then android, then all your game apps.

You have many items that use power and some vary depending on location and strength of signal. So one is the screen which takes a lot of power. Limiting brightness can help and there was a good article about some apps that can help with that at http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-apps-to-manage-brightness-and-save-your-eyes-on-android/ Also the wireless radios whether 3G, 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth or GPS. So disable them when not needed. For things like that automation apps can help to look where you are and enable a specific profile to fit location. If you already have GPS off (trust me this one eats a lot of power) then you could look for specific WiFi access points to link the profile to. There is a lot you can do with this type of app to save power. One of the better free apps for this Profile Flow which you can read about at http://dottech.org/112355/android-review-profile-flow/ You can also use general battery optimizers like JuiceDefender but they do pretty much the same thing. Oh one last tip use Carat found at https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7251228/type/dlg/sid/UUmuoUeUpU77282/https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.berkeley.cs.amplab.carat.android to track down the worst offending apps for sucking power. Just remember it has to run a week or more to gather the data you need to decide about your apps. The good side of this is there are so many apps you can always replace a bad one. Good luck.

The absolute #1 culprit, by FAR, is the screen. That's why battery savers don't help as much as they often claim.#2 is data/GPS/WiFi running while the screen is off -- that's where battery savers can come in handy.

1. WiFi (Turn it off if you're not using it or aren't in range)2. Screen (esp. on newer phones with large HD screen)3. Excessive syncing/push notifications in Apps & Widgets (set to update every few hours, twice or once a day for most apps)4. GPS (turn it off when you're not using it!)5. High Speed network data (disable all but 2G if you're not using your phone, 3G/4G/LTE will eat up your battery) 6. Games/Media (Games>Video>MP3)7. Stray apps (Be sure to look at your battery log on your phone, usually in settings, to see whether there is a particular app eating a bunch of battery, then change syncing options or uninstall and try another app if necessary)

WiFi and screen always figure in the top five. Beyond this, you need to run a battery analyser to find out what uses up the most on your specific configuration.
