Hi,

I'd like to buy a reasonably priced product that allows me to take handwritten notes to paper that are also captured to the computer at the same time. This is especially useful in a school, where children's work products have to be saved in the classroom, but it would be nice to easily share them over computer with parents.

It's all part of my 'get the parents more involved (if they're willing)' campaign.

So... what should I buy?

You could write you notes on paper and then scan it into your computer and then use a OCR program to convert the images into text

There are a couple of choices from Evernote: If you have an iPad: Penultimate is an handwriting app for iPad. You get the natural experience of writing on paper, with the power of Evernote and the flexibility of a tablet. Lose the paper, keep the handwriting.Find it here: https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7251228/type/dlg/sid/UUmuoUeUpU79488/https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/penultimate/id354098826?mt=8You can also use EverNote Smart Notebooks from Moleskine ® Store: http://www.moleskineus.com/evernote-smart-notebooks.htmlIt works with the Evernote app (iPhone, iPad or Android) found here: https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7251228/type/dlg/sid/UUmuoUeUpU79488/https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evernote (for Android) and here: https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7251228/type/dlg/sid/UUmuoUeUpU79488/https://itunes.apple.com/app/evernote/id281796108?mt=8 (for iPad & iPhone)Now, when you fire up the Evernote app on your phone, one of the features to adding a new note is to take a picture. In addition to LiveScribe told before, your other option is Evernote with a scanner or decent camera. Evernote will allow the scanned pages to be OCR'd.Not a single product has done perfect function in this area, despite the needs. As a student I also want to be able to do such, however we're short on options for now.

I was also thinking suggesting in terms of a scanner with OCR solution. :) Very good and a cost effective solution.

Really your best bet atm is the Livescribe echo pen, it's not exactly cheap but if you have a good printer (to print the pages) it's a great idea. The real trouble with trying to merge the physical and virtual is that no one has figured out how to do it well yet. the livescribe is kinda uncomfortable to hold and it requires special paper to work at all, but with it's cons it does a really good job, makeuseof did a review of it a couple months ago so you can get the full details there.
