I am in search of Free zip software for Windows XP, I belong to a book swap and many of the files are compressed . I need something that works well and is free. I use Google Chrome and IE 8 depending on which email I am using. Any suggestions?

7zip supports almost all formats i know including ones used in linux

Install the free Linux operating system over your outdated and buggy Windows, then either use FileRoller for a GUI.or zip(1) in the terminal; they are both included.

I'd go for 7zip, it opens everything and it's ultra lightweight. WinRAR and WinZIP are (from memory) neither free nor lightweight. http://www.7-zip.org/

Gor for 7-Zip. Free, small, light on resources, many other formats besides .zip, integrates pretty well into windows. You can't go wrong with 7-Zip
