Apple has sent out invites for a special event dubbed "Far Out," which will take place on September 7. The company's track record over the years and all the rumors suggest that the event will focus on Apple's newest iPhone, the iPhone 14, among other releases.

Below, we've covered what we expect Apple to reveal on the day and how you can watch the event online.

We expect Apple to announce its newest iPhone lineup—the iPhone 14. This should be no surprise as Apple's September events have always revolved around the iPhone since 2012. Industry experts speculate that Apple's iPhone 14 series will come in four different versions: a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.7-inch iPhone Max, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Different rumors about the iPhone 14 have been floating around for a while now. While nothing concrete can be said until Apple announces the iPhone itself, there are a few expected changes. The iPhone 14 Pro models are expected to get a new pill-shaped cutout and hole-punch cutout to replace the notch. The Pro models may also get a new A16 chip, a 48MP camera, and other improvements.

Other rumors suggest that the iPhone and iPhone Max will, unfortunately, continue to feature the notch for now, alongside the current-generation A15 chip. We may also see a base model storage bump from 128GB to 256GB for some models, but take all this information with a grain of salt.

2. Apple Watch Series 8 (and SE)

Apple is likely to release a new Apple Watch, as has been the case in previous years. According to industry experts, the Apple Watch Series 8 could feature an updated low-power mode, longer battery life, and temperature sensing, among other features.

Rumors also suggest the launch of a new higher-end Apple Watch Pro, which is expected to feature a new design, larger screen size, and improved durability due to premium materials. This model seems to be for those who use their smartwatches much more than regular users, such as athletes.

3. iOS 16 and watchOS 9 Rollout

Apple's September event is when the company usually announces the exact release dates for the latest version of iOS and iPadOS. Apple originally announced iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 at WWDC 2022 back in June, and since then, developers and public beta testers have been beta-testing the software.

We are hoping for an imminent release for iOS 16, so we can use all the latest features. But if you don't have the patience to wait, you may also install the public beta for iOS 16 on your iPhone to test the new software and see if you like it.

Unfortunately, Apple has confirmed that the iPadOS 16 will not ship alongside iOS 16. The company has had several delays in the iPadOS beta testing, reportedly due to tweaks to the Stage Manager experience. As per Apple's statement to TechCrunch:

This is an especially big year for iPadOS. As its own platform with features specifically designed for iPad, we have the flexibility to deliver iPadOS on its own schedule. This Fall, iPadOS will ship after iOS, as version 16.1 in a free software update.

However, you can expect Apple to launch watchOS 9—the latest software for the Apple Watch. It features new watch faces, updated sleep tracking capabilities, and a Medications app designed to help you track your medications, vitamins, and supplements.

4. Other Possible Announcements

Apart from the products we anticipate, we may also see some surprise launches at Apple's "Far Out" event. We're waiting on a second-generation AirPods Pro, and it makes sense for Apple to announce these with the iPhone 14.

The company could also launch a new 10th-generation iPad, but the chances of this happening are slim; there's a greater chance Apple will schedule a separate event for its iPads.

How to Watch the Apple Event Online

If you're interested in watching the "Far Out" event, it will be streaming on Apple's website, Apple's YouTube channel, and the Apple TV app on September 7 at 10am (PST). Although the event will be streamed online, it will be a proper in-person event, which we haven't seen from Apple since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

We're not expecting any Macs at this event since Apple's September events have always been iPhone-focused. Stay tuned to our website, as we'll be here to cover and fill you in on the details of Apple's most anticipated event of 2022.
