My computer has mechanical issues. Best advice so far is to send the PC back to HP.

I possess an external hard drive. Backing up is not a major concern. Looking for one time shot ghost deal. This girl needs a blueprint. Any suggestions? Thank you!

If u r running Windows 7 Professional you can use the inbuilt System Image to create the entire image of the PC.If not, I would highly recommend using EaseUS Todo Backup Free from link below:http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm

I can recommend "Paragon Backup & Recovery 2013 Free" (http://www.paragon-software.com/home/br-free/) but, to be honest, there are plenty of good products out there (DriveXML, Easyus, Macrium, Clonezilla and the list goes on) and it makes little difference what software you use, particularly in a "one shot" situation where the extra features don't come into play.

i would go with Acronis true image but is shareware, you can have a support if things dont go well in recovery.Stuff Happens: The Backup & Restore Guidehttps://www.makeuseof.com/tag/download-stuff-happens-the-backup-restore-guide/

If you are just looking for a solution to image your drive, I'd go with Clonezilla . You may also want to just take a standard backup of all of your data files in case you only need to restore those items when the machine is returned/replaced. You should also delete any sensitive information from the hard drive and wipe the free space with Eraser before sending it in to guard against the potential unscrupulous technician.
