Sony introduced PlayStation Stars, a new program that'll help PlayStation gamers earn points for what they do best: play video games.

Everyone can be part of the PlayStation Stars program, and here's everything you need to know.

What Is PlayStation Stars?

PlayStation Stars is a loyalty program from Sony that the company announced in July 2022. This program rewards PlayStation gamers worldwide for playing video games.

The best part about the PlayStation Stars program is that everyone can join for free. You don't need to pay extra or subscribe to PlayStation Plus to be part of it, albeit having a subscription might help you.

When you become part of PlayStation Stars, you'll only have one goal: to earn as many loyalty points as possible. You can then use these loyalty points to get extra perks and collectibles, but more on that in just a moment.

At the time of writing, we don't know the exact release date for the PlayStation Stars program, but Sony is already testing it, and the company expects to launch it in late 2022.

Likewise, we don't know where PlayStation Stars will launch, but Sony confirmed that this program would launch in "phased regional rollouts," so don't expect it to be available everywhere at first.

How to Earn PlayStation Stars Loyalty Points

Sony's PlayStation Stars program is perfect for casual and hardcore gamers alike. In a post on the PlayStation Blog, the company confirmed that you'd be able to earn loyalty points in many different ways, including playing your favorite games each month.

You'll earn points by participating in campaigns and activities. Some of them will be as easy as doing what Sony calls a "Monthly Check-In" campaign which will require you to play any game from your library each month to earn loyalty points.

Of course, that is the easy route, but if you're a hardcore gamer, there are other more competitive campaigns. You'll also earn loyalty points by playing tournaments, winning specific trophies in a game, and even being the first player in your local time zone to get a particular platinum trophy. Fortunately, many PlayStation games are easy to platinum, so earning points might be easier than we think.

Additionally, all PlayStation Plus members will earn loyalty points for each purchase they make in the PlayStation Store, so it may be a good time to take a look at the PlayStation Plus subscriptions plans and choose the right one for you.

What Rewards PlayStation Stars Offers

Loyalty points will be fun to earn, but they're just the tip of the iceberg. You can redeem loyalty points in a specific catalog, which may have different perks, including PSN wallet funds, select PlayStation Store products, and what Sony calls "digital collectibles."

Alongside the PlayStation Stars loyalty program, Sony also revealed the new digital collectibles as part of the program. These collectibles are "digital representations of things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including figurines of beloved and iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment." Additionally, there are also "devices that tap into Sony's history of innovation."

At the time of writing, Sony hasn't shown any digital collectibles. Still, we should expect that collectibles from popular characters like Kratos and older consoles like the original PlayStation will be part of these digital collectibles.

Welcome to the Loyalty Program

Sony is working on different ways to make playing video games more rewarding than ever. Whether it's because you want to get all the digital collectibles or earn some extra funds for your PSN wallet, PlayStation Stars is a great loyalty program that everyone can enjoy without spending a dime.
