Have you ever seen a show or read a book that's so good that you want to find another one that covers the same topics? That isn't easy to do sometimes. But this is where Likewise comes in handy.

Likewise helps you find recommendations on your next book, podcast, movie, or TV show pick based on your previous likes and dislikes.

Let's take a closer look at what Likewise has to offer and how it can benefit you.

What Is Likewise?

Likewise

Simply put, Likewise is a platform that provides recommendations, and it's available as an app for Android and iOS.

The more you use the Likewise app, the better recommendations you get. It mainly offers ones on movies and TV shows, books, and podcasts. But if you delve into its community, you're sure to find a recommendation on pretty much anything.

Think of Likewise as a social platform, not to be confused with a social media platform. It offers many groups where you can have an open discussion with the members. You can ask a question and receive an answer from dozens of different people.

Groups tend to focus on a specific topic, like "Family-friendly" for example. So, if you go there, you can ask which is your favorite family-friendly restaurant to take your kids to and see the responses you get. You're free to reply, like, and comment.

It's an excellent tool that helps you find your next favorite pick, whether it's a restaurant, book, podcast, or whatever else. Finding your next read has never been this easy. The same goes for podcasts, too. Since there aren't many well-known ways for discovering a podcast worth listening to, Likewise is an excellent way to find one you know you'll enjoy.

Likewise sign up

You can use Likewise to discover new places and titles, curate your tastes, and share them with others. It's an excellent app for when you're in a particular mood but don't know how to find your next pick that caters to it.

Say you just finished reading the best crime thriller you've read in a while. You can go to the app, type the title, rate that you liked it, and see what the app would recommend based on your like. Or, you can go to a group that talks about crime thrillers and start a discussion on which book most resembles the one you read and loved. Then simply wait for the replies and find your next pick to consume. It's that easy.

How Does Likewise Determine What to Recommend You?

As soon as you sign up, Likewise has you go through each major section (movies and TV shows, books, and podcasts) and select which genres and types of content you gravitate towards. There is no limit, so you can pick as many or as few as you want.

There's comedy, drama, documentaries, anime, animation, and so on. Sometimes when you select a genre, the app adds a subgenre, so you can further specify. For example, if you choose comedy, it will show you dark comedy, teen comedy, and more.

Likewise genre selection

After selecting the genre/type of content you like, it takes you to a page where you can choose specific movies and TV shows you watched and enjoyed. You can go through the list it curated for you or type titles into the search bar and mark them. When you're done with movies and TV shows, you do the same with podcasts and books.

It asks you to pick twenty movies and shows, ten books, and five podcasts. After that initial selection, you can continue adding to your likes or click the Save button to save a title, so you can rate it after you see, hear, or read it.

Since the app shows you various recommendations from different people, if you see you have similar tastes to someone, in particular, you can choose to follow them. Then you can go through their likes and recommendations and add comments. You can ask each other questions about good books, shows, or anything else.

What Features and Community Does Likewise Offer?

Likewise is easy to use. When you launch it, you're greeted with the Today section of your profile. In Today, you get recommendations for the three primary categories: TV and movies, books, and podcasts.

All the recommendations shown cater to your specific likes. When the app recommends something to you, it makes sure to justify it in a way, like because you'd enjoyed two similar books. Alternatively, it claims that it gave you the recommendation based on the genres you gravitate towards or because it was the most popular title in the last couple of weeks.

You can mark its recommendations as Liked or Disliked, giving the algorithm a better idea of your tastes.

The app also has a Groups category where you can find all the groups the app placed you in based on your selected preferences (genre and title picks), as well as groups the app thinks you might enjoy if you join them. In this section, you can also find Discussions, which you're free to participate in if you want. You can see what people are talking about and add to their discussions or start your own.

The next section is Discover, where (you've guessed it) you can discover new titles. You're free to browse through people's shared questions on their topics of interest, and find out what's coming out this month and what's leaving. That usually has to do with shows coming and going from streaming services. You can go through the Trending lists, titles you might like, and ones that users with similar tastes to you have liked.

The last section Likewise offers is Saves. It harbors every title you choose to save, as well as lets you create and curate lists of your own. Like, The Best Romantic Comedies or Studio Ghibli Movies for a Rainy Day.

Your profile shows you how many followers you have and who you follow, plus the posts you've made (titles you've marked as liked or disliked, posts, and comments). And, you also get a notifications tab that lets you know every time you get a follower, like, comment, and so on.

Is Likewise Worth Using?

The app is worth trying. Likewise is fun, interactive, and social. The more you use it, the better it's going to be for you.

Likewise is a preferred alternative to wasting your time trying to use Google to find a book that's similar to the one you've just finished. It's certainly better than trying your luck at Twitter or Instagram, where it's more than likely people won't take your question seriously.

You can use Likewise to find your next favorite TV show, learn about a brunch place you've never heard of before, and find like-minded people to chat with about your last read. With Likewise, you get more than recommendations; you can become a part of a community.
