Most major brands that come to CES often arrive with several new product launches. Hisense was no different this year as the company announced a slew of devices including the U8K, U7K, and U6K series. The star of the show, however, was the company's brightest TV yet, the ULED X.

The 85-inch 4K TV boasts full mini LED backlighting, dimming zones in the thousands, expanded viewing angles, better brightness and contrast as well as support for smart home technologies. We'll take a closer look at the model.

Hardware Specifications and Features

The ULED X comes in two different configurations. One with an 85-inch 4K panel and the other with a 110-inch 8K panel. Both TVs are powered by mini LED, with backlighting taken care of by 20,000 individual mini LEDs.

Hisense claims this gives the sets a maximum brightness of 2,500 nits and as many as 5,000 dimming zones. This is a big step forward, especially considering that last year's flagship, the U8G OLED had a claimed maximum brightness of 1,000 nits and 1,200 dimming zones.

All this means better overall brightness and contrast for you, the viewer in addition to better HDR performance. The ULED X runs something that the company is calling Hi-View Engine X which makes automatic adjustments to the image to ensure that the panel is showing the best picture it can.

The panel itself has 30% expanded viewing angles compared to last year's flagship and gets an added ultra-low reflection panel to fight off any glare. There's also support for Dolby Vision, NextGen TV, FreeSync Premium Pro, and Wi-Fi 6E for connectivity.

Finally, the audio is taken care of by the seven integrated speakers rated for over 80 watts of power and put together with a 4.1.2 multi-channel audio system. This sound system along with support for Dolby Atmos spatial sound sure should create an immersive experience for the viewer.

What’s Special About Hisense’s ULED X?

While most specifications about the ULED X are still relatively impressive for a TV, the special thing here is the mini LED backlighting, instead of the usual OLED. Hisense as a company has gone all in on the technology and the ULED X is a direct consequence.

The hardware has the potential to be way ahead of the competition, at least in terms of the overall image quality offered. Hisense TVs have always been known for their panel brightness and contrast and competition like LG's new G3 with its 2000 nits maximum brightness is closing in quickly.

Pricing and Availability

Hisense hasn't announced anything regarding the price and sale availability of the ULED X at the time of writing. That said, if the company can keep the price down and the final product works the way it was demonstrated at CES 2023, it might just end up being a hit.

There was no shortage of good TVs at CES 2023. Hisense has stiff competition from LG's OLEDs and Samsung's MicroLED this time around and the manufacturer providing the best overall experience will win.
