But for improved privacy on your Google smart speakers and displays, it's a good idea to turn on Guest Mode, too. Let's take a look at what this feature is and how you can enable it.

What Is Guest Mode?

Guest Mode is one of the ways to secure your Google Nest and Home speakers and displays. It works like the normal mode, where you can still play songs and games, control your smart home devices, set alarms, make announcements (for Family Bell and Broadcast), and ask funny questions to your Google Assistant, among other things.

However, the only difference is that Google Assistant will act as if it doesn't know you, so it won't say or show any personal results. This includes personal contacts or events from your Google calendar. None of your interactions with Google Assistant will be saved to your account even if you've set your device to save audio recordings and Assistant activity.

Guest Mode can come in handy at times when you don't want your activity to show up in your history, such as when you want to surprise your family with a tasty dinner, or you're looking for a fancy gift idea. The feature is also a must-use when you have guests over, so they can use your device without their interactions associated with your account.

How to Turn On Guest Mode

To enable Guest Mode on your device, all you really have to do is say, "OK Google, turn on Guest Mode." Your device will sound a chime, indicating that Guest Mode is on. Bear in mind, however, that this privacy setting isn't rolled out to every country or language just yet. Enabling Guest Mode on one device also doesn't enable it on all of your devices.

You can disable Guest Mode by saying, "Hey Google, turn off Guest Mode."

Better Privacy With Guest Mode

With Guest Mode on, guests and other family members are less likely to access your personal information like calendar and search history.

It also prevents general searches from being saved to your account if you don't want them to. This gives you better privacy and control of what data is saved on your device.
