Disney+ plays host to a number of iconic brands that you'll undoubtedly know, like Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars. However, one you might not recognize is Star. On Disney+, the Star brand is available in select regions and grants access to a wealth of exciting shows and movies.

Here's everything you need to know about Disney+ Star: where it's available, what it provides, how to access it, and more.

What Is Disney+ Star?

Disney+ primarily separates its content by brand. When you subscribe to Disney+, the homepage prominently displays tiles for each brand: Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. In most places that Disney+ is available (more on that below), there's an additional tile for the Star brand.

Broadly, Star contains Disney's more adult-orientated content that goes beyond its traditional family-friendly image, created by its studios like ABC, FX, Searchlight Pictures, and 20th Century Studios.

Confusingly, in Latin America Disney have a streaming service called Star+, while India has Disney+ Hotstar. Despite the similar naming, these aren't the same as the standalone Star brand, though much of the content overlaps.

Where Is Disney+ Star Available?

When Star launched on February 23, 2021, it was only available in select territories, though it quickly expanded to others. Now, in the nearly all the countries where Disney+ is available, Star is included. This includes Australia, Canada, Europe, and New Zealand, to name a few.

There are some noticeable exceptions to Star's availability: the US and Latin America. This is because much of the content is instead available on streaming services exclusive to those regions (Hulu and Star+, respectively). For example, shows branded "Hulu Originals" in the US are instead a "Star Original" in the UK.

What Can You Watch on Disney+ Star?

Star brings together content from Disney subsidiary studios and channels, which includes original and licensed movies and TV shows. This means that if you're in a region where Disney+ includes Star, Disney+ is arguably great value for money.

The exact offering varies depending on region, but can include shows like Atlanta, Dopesick, Futurama, Only Murders in the Building, and The Walking Dead, and movies like Death on the Nile, Nomadland, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, Prey, and Summer of Soul.

How Much Does Disney+ Star Cost?

If you have a Disney+ subscription, whether that's monthly or annual, Star comes as default. It doesn't cost any extra.

That said, when Star was first introduced in February 2021, the cost of Disney+ rose. In the UK, the monthly cost went from £5.99 to £7.99; in Australia, it changed from $8.99 to $11.99.

How Do You Access Disney+ Star?

The easiest way to access Star content on Disney+ is to click its tile from the top of the homepage. Once on the dedicated Star page, you can scroll through the themed rows to find something that you want to watch. Alternatively, if you're seeking a specific title, use Disney+'s search function to locate it.

If you can't find something, it might be due to the parental controls. Since Star contains more adult-orientated content, much of it has a higher age rating than movies or shows elsewhere on Disney+. Our guide on how to use Disney+'s parental controls has you covered if you want to adjust your settings.

Star Is a Great Reason to Subscribe to Disney+

When Disney+ launched, one of the criticisms levied against it was that its content was primarily targeted at younger people, especially when compared against competitors like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

However, the introduction of Star changed that, and it's one of the main reasons you should subscribe. Now, Disney+ is a solid streaming service for all age groups.
