Sony has revealed surprising news for the Virtual Reality fans; the next generation PlayStation Virtual Reality (PSVR) headset is coming to the PS5. Even though that’s incredible news, Sony said it won't release this new VR system this year.

There aren't many details about what we should expect from the new PSVR system. However, we can expect a few things from the first Virtual Reality Headset for the PlayStation 5.

What Can We Expect From the Next-Gen PS5 VR Headset?

In a post on the PlayStation.com Blog, Sony mentioned a few changes we should expect from the second-generation PSVR.

The most significant change Sony shared with us is a new, more straightforward setup which will allow the PSVR to connect to the PS5 with one cord.

This single-cord setup will make the VR much easier to use, and will enable players without compromising high-fidelity or visual experience. Sounds good up to now...

Not only that, but Sony says it’ll take everything the company learned from the first PlayStation VR headset released for the PS4 and use it to enhance the player’s experience. The company continues saying we should expect a better resolution and improvements in the field of view, tracking, and input.

This makes sense since some common problems with the current-generation VR for the PlayStation 4 were tracking issues and blurry images.

Sadly, Sony didn’t get into details in its blog post, and it seems we’re not getting any tech specifications just yet, but they should be released in the next few months.

In an interview with GQ magazine, Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO, said we won’t be getting any specs right now. However, we should expect them sometime this year. Still, that doesn’t give us much room to know what Sony will reveal.

During the same interview, Ryan also mentioned that we’ll see some similar changes to the single-cord setup previously mentioned. It seems like Sony will focus on creating a more straightforward, more comfortable setup so most people can just plug it in and start playing.

The PS VR Controller Will Also See Major Improvements

It seems the PSVR controller will also get some major changes. Along with a focus on ergonomics, Sony confirmed that the next-generation motion control will borrow some features from the PS5 DualSense wireless controller.

Even though we don’t know what these features will be, we should expect to see in-depth haptic feedback and maybe even some form of adaptive triggers, along with better battery life and (hopefully) a sleek new design.

Unfortunately, it’s too early to tell, and it seems like Sony loves keeping secrets from us and making us wait for it. During the same interview with GQ, Jim Ryan only had this to say:

“We’re not saying anything specific today about any developer support, whether it’s our own studios or any of our publishing partners, but obviously we will launch our new VR system with appropriate software support.”

Ryan also mentioned the Dev Kits are about to go out without getting into too much detail.

That being said, we should expect that upcoming VR titles, such as After the Fall, Sniper Elite VR, and Humanity, which are titles Sony mentioned in its blog post, will be available on the PS5 as well.

Virtual Reality Is Still Going Strong

Whether you’re planning on waiting for the next-generation VR headset from Sony, or you want to start by playing on your current PS4, now is an as good time as any to try the Virtual Reality Gaming world. All you need is to know where to begin.
