Amazon Alexa integrates seamlessly with Ring Video Doorbells. Smart replies are the ideal Alexa skill for the two devices together.

But there are several Ring products that also work well with Amazon that you may not have considered for your smart home. We’ll cover some smart and secure ways you can use the two device types together.

Combining Alexa and Ring With Quick Replies

You can use Quick Replies with your Ring Doorbell, kind of like an answering system for your door. When you use this service, you can enable a recorded response that visitors will be greeted with when they ring your doorbell. You can also enable automated responses provided by Ring, such as “Hi! We’ll be right there.”

You can also have Alexa answer your door for you. Using this skill, visitors can interact with Alexa. You can say things like, “Alexa, answer the front door,” or “Alexa, talk to the person at the front door.” Alexa can take over for you and handle the interaction that a visitor needs.

To enable Quick Replies, add Ring as a skill in your Alexa app for iOS or Android. Alexa will take you through some basic steps, such linking your Amazon and Ring accounts, and authorizing Alexa to access your Ring account.

Also ensure the latest software and updates are applied across all your devices and apps. And ensure your Ring device and Echo devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, your Alexa devices are under the same profile, etc.

Other Ways Your Ring Devices Work With Alexa

Ring and Alexa collaborate to offer several additional smart home and security features. Here are a few examples of how you could use the skill.

Keeping Your Doors Secure

Say you wake in the middle of the night, realizing you have forgotten to lock the front door. Gone are the days when you got out of bed, walked to the door, locked it, and possibly failed to fall back asleep. Instead, say, “Alexa, lock my front door.”

Alexa will lock your door if it includes a Works With Ring smart lock. Alexa will also audibly confirm the completed task, so you can roll over and go back to your peaceful sleep.

Controlling Your Security Alarm

You no longer have to fumble with a keypad if you have a Ring Alarm System and Alexa. You can ask Alexa to arm your security system while you walk out the door. Or if you’ve accidentally set off your Ring Alarm, you could say, “Alexa, turn off the security alarm.”

Let There Be Light

Ring offers several different types of lighting that you can use outside for smart security and convenience. Say you use the Neighbors by Ring social space, and you’ve seen a notification posted by a neighbor that they’ve been a victim of porch piracy. With a Ring Spotlight, you could say, “Alexa, turn on the front porch security light.”

Or say your kids text you, telling you they’re walking home, and you realize that all the lights are off in front of your house. You could say, “Alexa, turn on the lights out front.” Alexa can turn on Ring Spotlights, Pathlights, Steplights, and more.

Keeping an Eye on the Outside

If you’re still concerned about that porch pirate, you can use Ring Security Cameras to watch for suspicious activity outside your house.

For example, you could say, “Alexa, show me the front door security feed.” Your Echo Show device can use your Ring Security Cam to show you what’s happening at your front door, in front of the garage, etc.

With an Amazon Fire TV, you could view the security feed on your large screen, so you don't miss a thing.

Alexa Can Keep You Posted

Alexa can notify you when your Ring camera and motion sensor detects motion outside your house. Alexa can even notify you when you've got mail using a Ring Mailbox Sensor.
