I use LibreOffice

One free alternative to PowerPoint, and IMHO the best one, wasn't mentioned so far: FreeOffice.FreeOffice is a free office suite that includes inter alia a presentation program called FreeOffice Presentations. Why do I find it better than those of LibreOffice and others? The main reason is its interoperability. Whilst LibreOffice and all others don't display PowerPoint formats (ppt, pptx) properly, FreeOffice Presentations does. I never had any problems opening files, and they were displayed faithfully. When I created presentations with FreeOffice, and saved them as ppt, they looked exactly the same with PowerPoint.Second, it is small (less than 58MB, one third of LibreOffice).Third, it is blazingly fast. And more. Try it out, you can download it free for Windows and Linux at this website:freeoffice.com

I've used Open Office in place of MS programs for years, with no problems and great functionality. Their version of PowerPoint is called Impress. I can speak for the other programs mentioned here, but one thing I like about OO is that work can be saved in the MS format so it can be opened anywhere.

Neooffice for Mac is a suite of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation it can open and save MS Office files.

Free as in beer or free as in free speech?

I use Open Office whenever possible - it is almost compatible with power Point although I have found that the macros from Power Point do not always transfer correctly.

Prezi is free and online, and great to do presentations. Other is VideoScribe. Google them, it's worth it.

I think if you need full functionality, use Open Office or Libre Office. But if you need basic Powerpoint, use the Office Web apps.

I'll be repeating others here, so to give you my opinion:Altenatives (are free)1. KingSoft Office (Win)2. LibreOffice (Win/Linux/Mac)Latest version of Kingsoft Office 2013 is more look-like MsOffice 2010, so you will find it easy to move around, also small download size (50MB) http://www.ksosoft.com/product/office-free.html. As someone here recommended, try you presentation in a computer with Ms Powerpoint so you don't have any surprises.

Kingsoft Office is also for Linux as well.

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-free-alternatives-microsoft-powerpoint/1. PreZentitWith PreZentit, all you need is a Web browser to create a presentation with its own URL. You can download the presentation for display without an Internet connection. It has limited functions, but the ease of use makes it worth a try for on-the-spot pitches.2. PreziConvert your PowerPoint for the Web or create a presentation right within your browser. Prezi sets itself apart with the ability to craft interactive visual mind maps, use 3-D zoom, and turn your slides into a cinematic experience.3. Google Docs PresentationsAnyone with a Google account can create presentations right inside Google Docs. You won't find all the features available in PowerPoint, but it is free. It's your best bet for collaborative projects because, like any other Google Doc, you can share it with others for real-time editing on the cloud.4. KeynoteSorry PCs, but this one is limited to Mac users. It comes with the iWork software suite, or you can buy it a la carte. Keynote will satisfy designers with its many attractive features, and its compatibility with iPhone and iPad are making it the go-to choice for mobile professionals.5. BrainsharkBrainshark—along with its mobile app, Slideshark—essentially converts your existing PowerPoint presentation to an online video. Your ideas become available to an unlimited audience at their demand. You'll have to pay if you want all the capabilities, but you can track your views for free.

Try PowToon.com + here is an article about 10 powerpoint alternatives. http://www.powtoon.com/blog/tag/10-best-powerpoint-alternatives/

There are three groups of alternatives: 1. Similar products, such as Open Office/Libre Office or KingSoft Office. These are _very_ similar to PowerPoint, and are generally capable of opening PowerPoint documents and saving in that format (although none of them, in my experience, are 100% compatible, so always test before presenting!).2. Cloud based versions, such as Google Docs, Zoho Office or Docs.com. These tend to be less sophisticated than desktop presentation applications, but are much more portable (all you need is a web browser). On the downside, you are entirely reliant on a good internet connection for designing and particularly for the live presentation.3. Tools that approach the task differently. By enlarge, they aim to make the presentation much more interactive. The most interesting one in my view is Prezi, which is available both as a cloud app (free) and as a local/cloud tool (not free). There are some limitations on the free version, the most important of which is that your presentations must be public, but if this is not a problem for you then you should check it out. Some people also like to use mind-mapping tools presentations, but there are many of these available, so I won't list them here.

LibreOffice and OpenOffice both have Impress for presentations.
