I just went on mp3dragon.com and it looks nice, but I was wondering if it's safe? It looks safe, but I was already infected once and don't want to be again. I may try it if I don't get an answer soon.

to check a website the simplest way is to look websites certificates and its validity with their respective issuing authority. If the websites have no certificates or it is invalid then there is only way that you have to take risk, do look for the user reviews as it might be fake.

You can use OpenDNS. It is a free service for home use. Just checkout this urlhttp://www.opendns.com/home-solutions/Go through the instructions mentioned. Change your DNS. You can filter sites that you don't want. It not only filter sites but also provides a faster internet. If the site is not trusted, OpenDNS blocks it according to your filters by displaying a message.Next, use avast! Free Antivirus. It keeps scanning all the websites you visit for malware. You can download it here.https://www.anrdoezrs.net/links/7251228/type/dlg/sid/UUmuoUeUpU82979/https://www.avast.com/en-in/free-antivirus-downloadUse WOT (Web Of Trust). It displays sites that can and cannot be trusted. You can download it here. For Firefox : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wot-safe-browsing-tool/For Chrome : https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/bhmmomiinigofkjcapegjjndpbikblnpIf you are making any transactions, or dealing with confidential data, then check your browser's address bar.In Firefox,A blue color appears in the address bar. That means your transactions are safe from hackers or other third persons. (or)A green color appears in the address bar. That means your transactions are safe from hackers or third persons and also the money to whom (which party) you are transacting is an identified and a trusted party. In Chrome,A green colored "https" word along with a lock symbol comes first. This means as same as blue color in firefox.A green colored block which gives the information about the party you are transacting is given.

It looks safe. I tried downloading a song by Philips(idol), it was clean. Though that was one download only, and isn't really fare to judge by that. Also I don't know who uploads the files, it could be the owner, or user. Though I don't think it is legal. There are songs by many singers(songs that are sold and not free or owned by the public). Though the same thing happens on YouTube and many other sites, its upto you in the end, to use it or not.-Alem

The previous answers are all good stuff but just one thing to add.Use opendns.comIf it may looks too complicated "or technical" - well it isn't really, it's quite a simple change but get someone to help you if necessary.Search MakeUseOf and you'll find some helpful articles about OpenDNS. It blocks some of the bad stuff before it gets as far as your internet connection and you have some control over what it considers "bad stuff" choose for yourself whether you want your household to be able to use gambling, games, porn, sites (and dozens of other categories). If it blocks a site you do want to access then you can set up an "allow" filter.Use some of the desktop security tools too. No individual solution is foolproof and there's no conflict between OpenDNS and desktop security software. As Oron wrote all these tools are inevitably one-step behind the latest malware development - your brain is both the first and the final security filter - use it!What I mean by that is that you KNOW you run a risk if you access pirated content brain should tell you "don't" if you go ahead regardless and OpenDNS and desktop security don't spot the problem then brain MAY spot something unusual or suspicious in which case pull the plug and investigate.

If you use Avast, they allow you to install an add-on to several browsers that works in the same way as WOT. They also include phishing protection with this browser add-on.

sidestepping the issue of downloading illegal music...first thing you can do to avoid getting hit by malicious scripts and infected by malware is a decent antivirus program (avg, and kasparsky comes to mind as the free ones with the best reputation), next step is to avoid using internet explorer (and since you are using chrome, you got that down), and then the most important thing of it all.. common sense, avoid unnescessary risks..in other words, avoid mp3dragon, and use a torrent client, or similar, along with a trusted source for your torrent files/magnet links, and scan all files after download before you open them.to the best of my knowledge, the mp3 files you download cannot contain malware, but the links you click to download could piggyback unwanted files along with them if you choose to download from mp3dragon.the pirate bay, kick ass torrents, and demonoid are all considered trusted torrent directories.

Hello, pretty much any antivirus nowadays whether it is paid or free offers a check for this. Bitdefender, avg, norton, etc they all have it. also remember that browsers give warnings too.

Firefox and Opera will warn you about unsafe sites, and as others below mention, WOT and other toolbars and sites are also available to help. Bear in mind however, that you can NEVER be absolutely sure a site is safe, since these tools depend on a collection reports, so it takes some time to establish the reputation of a site, and even valid sites can be hacked or infected.

WOT will only put ratings on the search results pages of major search engines unless something has changed within the last 6 months or so.

Something has changed - WoT places a colour-coded icon in the browser header (or where you customise it to) which shows the rating held for any site you load. You can also click on this to add your own rating and/or comment.

You can use Norton's SafeWeb (http://safeweb.norton.com/lite?MKTG_SEMID=1) which installs a toolbar with an indicator to notify you if a site is safe, unknown, or not safe. You can also download Norton's Identiy Safe which provides the same functionality as well as a password manager (Vault) and form-filler. It is free if downloaded and installed prior to October 1st.I believe that AVG also has a Link Checker that is available from their site as well as download.com.
