I was wondering if the highly knowledgeable staff at MakeUseOf has ever heard of a program that uses a computer's webcam to detect motion and if no motion is detected for a period of time, the program will turn down the computer's volume.

My reason for asking is, I usually leave my music on and sometimes leave my desk without returning for a while. I would like my computer to automatically turn down the volume or put itself to sleep when no motion has been detected in a while. Is this possible? Thank you!

Smilydream, the question above is rather old. If you do not receive a fresh answer within this thread, I recommend you to ask a new question .

I recommend YAWCAM. It allows you to run variables with motion detection (and its 100% free!) just find an application or bat file that will lower your volume.

Wow, that's a tall (though logical) requirement. Motion detection can be incorporated into standard webcams using motion detection software like - Dorgem (Free)This one captures pictures. WebCam Monitor (Not Free)This is again a surveillance device. Now, there is Zone Trigger (Not Free) which can be setup to do what you are seeking. It is described as the first multi-purpose motion detection software. I can't endorse it as I haven't tried it, but you can check it out.
