You probably share your whereabouts on Instagram often. Whether it's a restaurant, bar, a new café downtown, or a beautiful tourist hotspot, many users on Instagram will tag the location of just about everywhere they go.

But when the 24-hour time limit for Instagram Stories passes, where do they go? Are you able to find them again?

Fortunately, the answer is yes. Instagram stores all your photo and video stories for you in an archive. Here’s how to locate them, displayed on a world map within the app.

  1. Open Instagram and go to your profile at the bottom right of your screen.
  2. Once you are on your profile, tap the three horizontal lines in the top right corner.
  3. Select Archive.
  4. You will see three tabs on the top of your Archive. Select the location icon on the right.
  5. Congratulations! You are now on the Archive map.

You can now move around the map and revisit every single Instagram Story, all sorted based on location.

If you zoom in on the map, Instagram will also place the Stories on their exact coordinates.

If you’d like to create a new Story Highlight for your old photos and videos, you can certainly do that as well. When you’ve done that, you can now create your own by following these simple steps.

  1. Tap on your desired Instagram Story on the map.
  2. On the photo or video, tap the Highlight button in the bottom right corner.
  3. Name your new Story Highlight.
  4. When you're done, tap on Add. The new Story Highlight is now on your profile.

If you are unable to find a particular Story on the Archive map, it means that you did not include a location tag on said Story. The Story does not pull any geolocation data that might have been stored passively within the image file itself.

Tidy Up Your Instagram Account

Your Instagram Archive is basically a trip down memory lane, and the app's Highlight function is a great way to document your best moments both for yourself and your followers.

If revisiting old memories is making you feel like your account is overwhelmed with unnecessary information, it might be time to clean up your Instagram account.
