I  downloaded a video from a mail in my inbox and it was opened in Microsoft Excel. I found it strange. Please tell me how it happened?

Try right-clicking on the video file and choosing 'Open With' along with whatever video player you have, such as Windows Media Player. If you can see the video fine, it could have been just that you hadn't set a program to open the specific kind of file (by associating the file with the program).
