Instagram has announced an update to its profile links, allowing users to add up to five links to their bio. The new native function means that fewer users will need to use workarounds like Linktree.

The update was announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on 18 April, 2023, on his Instagram broadcast channel. In the short announcement, Zuckerberg said that the increased link limit is "probably one of the most requested features we've had".

Previously, accounts were only able to add one link to their profile. This link was displayed under the user bio.

Now, rather than a single hyperlink, users will be able to add multiple titles and links. When users click on the link text, a popup will appear with the titles and links. Clicking on links in this popup menu will open the page using Instagram's in-app browser.

If you want to add additional links to your profile, head to your profile page and select Edit profile. Then, click on the Links tab.

Tap on Add external link, then paste the hyperlink you want to include and give it a title. Once you're done, tap the checkmark icon.

When you go back to your page, you will see your first link and the text "and 1 other" if you've added one extra link. This updates according to the total number of links you've included.

You also have the option to include a Facebook profile link. In order to do this, you need to grant Facebook access to your Instagram account information. This will also add your Instagram profile to your Meta Accounts Centre.

If you add this link, your Facebook profile will appear in your Instagram profile's list of links. You should only use this option if you want people to be able to find your Facebook profile page through Instagram.

Including links in your bio is one of the ways you can add links on Instagram. You can also share links in Stories and use a mirroring service if you want links for individual posts.

You no longer need to use link in bio tools to add multiple links to your Instagram profile. However, if you already use one of these services, you may want to keep it around for other social media profiles that are still limited to a single link.
