When upgrading your processor should you also upgrade your memory? I have a Asus M2N-MX SE Plus motherboard. Processor AMD Athlon 64 X2 -4400E, Memory 800 MHz. Want to move up to a AMD Phenom X4.

I'm kind of confused by the two answers. Fidelis and Susendeep dutta seem to be in conflict?

Actually, according to the ASUS site, this motherboard can handle dual channel memory DDR2-1066 with a maximum capacity of 4 GB. So, what this means is that this motherboard can handle faster RAM. Right now, the motherboard is using RAM with the speed of 800 MHz and if you upgrade your RAM to DDR2-1066 you can increase the RAM speed to 1066 MHz. Your motherboard:http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=loNjR1kiB2uHkijbSpecs for your motherboard:http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=loNjR1kiB2uHkijbCpu Support List:http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_ID=loNjR1kiB2uHkijbAlso, your motherboard supports the AMD Phenom x4 as long as it is one of the following:AMD Phenom X4: -- 9100e(1.8GHz),-- 9150e(1.8GHz), -- 9350e(2.0GHz), -- 9450e(2.1GHz)

I think you are using a PC.While using this motherboard, you can upgrade to AMD phenom II X4 as it can be put into AM2 as well as AM3 socket. But according to ASUS site it says AMD phenom II X4 not in supported list.Click below to see the supported list of processors.http://in.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=LqXTJVvWNyI6cj2dYou are using a RAM of speed 800 MHz which is very slow in nowadays and it will bottleneck you performance of your PC.Moreover you cannot upgrade your RAM upto higher speeds of RAM available like 1333 MHz which is the optimal speed for your AMD phenom II X4 as your motherboard supports upto 800 MHz only.Click below for the supported list of memory modules of your motherboard.http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socketAM2/M2N-MX%20SE/M2N-MX_SE_QVL.pdfSo it's useful to upgrade your Motherboard first in order to upgrade your RAM and processor.
