I have a Nokia 6085 phone which runs most J2ME apps fairly easily. However, the phone by default blocks apps from doing things like accessing phone memory and bluetooth. Since some really neat J2Me apps use those and are rendered worthless by this, I'd like to change it... but when I open an app and go to app permissions, I cannot change the option from 'never allow' so any other - they are grayed out, and say 'not available for this application' when I choose it.

Is there a way to make my phone allow the apps permission to those settings?

I have this same problem. This problem is actually present in all Nokia phones (not sure about Symbian and Maemo). You can only select those grayed out options if the app is signed. For all the other apps, there is only one option: Hack your phone. Hack not as in hack and slash, but as in change some internal settings :D. There is a program called MobiMB which you can use to do this. The program is not free, though you can download its demo version for free.I have found 2 links that show you how to do this (though I cannot verify the authenticity of these methods as I have not tried them myself).Warning: If you do not know what you are doing, STOP. If you do something wrong, your mobile phone may be damaged.http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/archive/index.php/t-423283.htmlhttp://dotsis.com/mobile_phone/showthread.php?133269-Hot!!-Hack-your-s40-security!!-Make-a-lot-of-java-apps-not-to-ask-about-permissions!
