Twitter has confirmed that it is working on giving users the ability to undo a sent tweet. The feature is currently under development, and it looks like the microblogging service is planning on offering it behind a paywall.

You Would Be Able to Undo Tweets... for a Price

Twitter is currently free to use, with the company relying on targeted advertising to generate revenue. However, Twitter is thinking of adding features like subscription fees, paid tips, and locking some advanced features behind a paywall to create additional revenue streams.

Twitter currently only offers an option to delete a tweet after it is sent out. The Undo Tweet button will allow you to retract a tweet before it goes live on the platform. App researcher Jane Manchun Wong posted a GIF showing an undo timer that will be shown briefly for tweets once you tweet them out.

Once the timer expires, you will not be able to retract the sent tweet. Then, the only option left will be to delete it. Essentially, the feature will delay posting a tweet for around 30 seconds, so you can spot typos and other issues. Twitter confirmed to CNET that it is indeed working on an Undo Tweet button.

Back in 2020, Twitter had sent a survey to some of its users, garnering their feedback on what features they were most likely to pay. It included options like advanced profile customization options, a 30-second undo window to retract tweets, longer video publishing times, and more.

While Twitter executives have confirmed in the past that the company is looking at locking some features behind a paywall, there has not been any word on when such options will be rolled out to users.

Twitter Is Also Working on Super Follows and Communities

Apart from paying for features, Twitter is also considering features like Super Follows, which will provide you exclusive access to tweets from your favorite content creator. Paid subscribers will also get a subscriber badge, access to a paid newsletter, special deals and discounts, community access, and more.

Other than Super Follows, Twitter is also working on Communities. This is basically the company's take on Facebook Groups. You will be able to explore different communities within the Twitter app and join the ones you like. This will then provide you with access to tweets related to that topic.

Twitter is also working on an overhaul of Tweetdeck, with the company likely planning on offering the overhauled app as a paid offering to users.

While Twitter is still exploring the idea of paid features and subscriptions, it is clear that the company intends to go down this path. By adding paid new features, the company hopes to diversify its revenue stream and offer more value to content creators and users on its platform.
