Twitter has previously stated that legacy verified accounts would lose their blue checkmark if they don't subscribe to Twitter Blue—and now we know when that process is set to start.

Twitter's Legacy Verified Checkmark Removal to Begin in April

The announcement was made on 23 March, 2023, via the Twitter Verified account. In the announcement, the company states:

"On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks."

Since the reintroduction of Twitter Blue, Twitter owner Elon Musk has said that those verified under legacy requirements would eventually lose their blue tick. He has also referred to the old system for verification as corrupted.

So what can these legacy verified accounts do to keep their checkmarks? Subscribe to Twitter Blue, according to the company. The subscription service is now available globally.

For regular users, the subscription is available on web for $8 per month or $84 per year. On mobile, it's $11 per month or $114.99 per year.

For companies that want to be verified, the platform is offering Twitter Verified Organizations. This gives the profile a gold checkmark and square avatar (for businesses and non-profits) or a grey checkmark and circular avatar (for government or multilateral organizations). This subscription will cost a whopping $1,000 per month. To add other accounts as Affiliates (and grant them a checkmark too), an additional $50 per month will be charged for each affiliate.

Say Goodbye to Legacy Verified Checkmarks

It's the end of an era as legacy verified accounts on Twitter will begin losing their blue ticks in April 2023. Whether this will lead to more Twitter Blue subscribers remains to be seen.
