It seems that Twitter is planning to roll out new misinformation warning labels, in a bid to keep users informed and protect them against misleading or false statements.

Twitter Is Developing New Warning Labels

You may have seen warning labels on Twitter already. During the recent US election, tweets from then-president Donald Trump were often flagged as containing unverified information.

Similar warning labels have been applied to tweets about the coronavirus pandemic. "Some or all of the content shared in this Tweet conflicts with guidance from public health experts," reads the warning, with the tweet only displayed after you click through.

Now, technology researcher Jane Manchun Wong has revealed that Twitter is working on three levels of misinformation warning labels: Get the latest, Stay Informed, and Misleading.

Wong's tweet humorously demonstrates how the labels could work in practice. These labels could link through to Twitter Moments to provide context and further information, or perhaps to an external authoritative source.

Wong also recently revealed that Twitter may add reactions to tweets, and that a subscription service called Twitter Blue is in the works.

It's good to see Twitter actively trying to control the misinformation that can too easily spread through its platform. It's currently unknown when these labels will roll out.
