Twitter has officially posted its first edited tweet—making a substantial step towards realizing the most requested feature on the social media platform. While the test of the edit button will be limited to certain users, everyone will be able to see edited tweets.

Twitter's First Edited Tweet Creates New Milestone

So when and where has this long-awaited tweet appeared? The official Twitter Blue account tweeted the edited post on 29 September 2022.

Twitter initially announced it was testing an edit button at the beginning of the month. The announcement on the Twitter blog included an example of what edited tweets would look like.

But the post from Twitter Blue is the first live preview of the feature that users can interact with. How does it differ from other tweets? Users should be able to see a pen icon and Last edited label on the post. By clicking on this label, users will be taken to the edit history of the tweet.

The edit history of this particular post shows that the original tweet reads: "Hello. This is a test to make sure the edit button works." In the edited post, Twitter Blue added "We'll let you know how it goes" at the end of the tweet. The history also shows how many likes, retweets, and comments the first version received versus how many the edited version received.

So why was the Twitter Blue account the first to post an edited tweet? Twitter has emphasized that it will be slowly rolling out this feature to limited users to see how people use (and potentially misuse) it. But Twitter Blue subscribers will be the first users to receive the feature outside of the limited test group.

The edit button will bring several changes to Twitter. Hopefully, the overall effect is positive, as many users simply want to be able to fix typos or add clarity to their posts.
