Admittedly, Twitter is not the first name that pops up when you're job-hunting online. However, it is an excellent place to find jobs if you know where and how to look.

Recruiters and owners of startups frequently use Twitter to announce job opportunities in their companies. But how can you find these job opportunities on Twitter? Here's how to search for local jobs in your city using Twitter.

How to Find Local Jobs in Your City Using Twitter

Twitter is one of the best places to find freelance work, and here's how to get started:

  2. Click the three-dot icon beside the search bar and tap Search filters on the dropdown menu that comes up.
  3. Select Advanced Search from the dropdown.
Select the Advanced search filter on Twitter
  4. In the Advanced search box that pops up on the screen, fill in the labeled fields to tweak your job preferences. Add proven job-related and hiring hashtags and click Search at the top right of the box.
Using the Advanced search features to find a job on Twitter.

Here's a simple guide for using the advanced search tool to find local jobs:

  1. For the All of these words input box, type a descriptive term for your preferred job. E.g., Technical content writer, or Web developer.
  2. You can provide a preferred location in the This exact phrase field. This will ensure that all results contain mentions of that location.
  3. For the These hashtags field, provide popular job hashtags related to your field. This will help to better refine your search results. Some popular hashtags include #nowhiring #remotework #jobsearch and #softwarejobs #ItJobs.
  4. If you want only a physical office job, including words like "remote" or "remote work" in the None of these words field might help filter out results that explicitly declare that a job opening is a remote job.
  5. Use the From and To Date fields to restrict results to more recent job openings, to ensure you're not following up on expired offers.

Even when you've added a date filter to your search, you can view even the most recent results by clicking Latest at the top of the result screen. You will see results of local businesses recruiting to fill a position in your local city.

Follow up with the job posts you like by messaging the recruiters and requesting more information. If you'd love to learn more about job search on Twitter, we've previously done a detailed piece on different ways to use Twitter for a successful job search.
