Former US President Donald Trump is planning on making a return to the social sphere, but it won't be on any mainstream outlet. Instead, Trump is creating his own social network, and it's set to launch in a matter of months.

A Trump-Owned Social Platform Is in the Works

After getting ousted from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and even Twitch, one would think that Trump would opt to establish a presence on a "free speech" platform, like Parler or Gab. But that's just not the case, as Trump is creating an entirely new social network.

In an interview with Fox News, Jason Miller, Trump's senior advisor, stated that Trump will return to social media "with his own platform" in about "two or three months."

"This is something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media. It's going to completely redefine the game," Miller stated. "And everyone is going to be waiting and watching to see what exactly President Trump does, but it will be his own platform."

Miller also predicted that it will attract "tens of millions" of people. He didn't go into detail about how exactly Trump's platform will operate, or what it will even be called, so we can only speculate what might be in the works. It's likely that it will have a lax moderation policy, much like Parler and Gab.

Trump was banned (and suspended) from several social networks for allegedly inciting violence during the Capitol riots. So, we can likely expect Trump's platform to have a weaker filter when it comes to certain kinds of content that would typically be removed on Facebook and Twitter.

Although it's possible to have a social network with lenient moderation policies, it can definitely create issues down the road. The team behind Parler experienced this firsthand, when Amazon Web Services dropped Parler, and the app was taken down from the Google Play and Apple App Store. All three tech giants cited that Parler failed to moderate violent content following the Capitol Hill protests.

Will This New Network Trump Existing Platforms?

If Trump launches a new social network, will millions of users really flock to it?

Parler and Gab saw a surge of politically-conservative users during and after the 2020 US presidential election—these same users will likely want to take Trump's upcoming network for a spin as well.

Most of these users weren't happy with Twitter and Facebook's treatment of Trump, which is why they made a move to these alternative networks geared towards free speech.
