Former US President Donald Trump’s social media platform, called Truth Social, is now available to download on iOS.So, here's what you need to know about Truth Social, which is already proving to be a controversial social media platform for various reasons.

Trump's Truth Social Is Now Available on iOS

Former US President Donald Trump's social media app, Truth Social, is now available to download from Apple's App Store. It was launched on February 21st, 2022, which is President’s Day in the US.

Immediately upon launching, the app reached the number one spot on the App Store's Top Charts.

Truth Social came about following Trump's bans from various social media platforms---including Facebook and Twitter---in 2021.

These platforms removed Trump due to concerns around his public comments following the Capitol Hill riots in January 2021.

Before getting himself banned from various social media platforms, Trump built up huge followings. So once these mainstream social media platforms dumped him, Trump announced his intention to build his own platform.

So, what is Trump’s social network about anyway? Here’s everything you need to know about Truth Social.

What Is Truth Social?

Truth Social is a social media app founded by former US President Donald Trump and owned by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG). This company was formed in February 2021 with the intention of building alternatives to mainstream media platforms.

TMTG first announced it would be launching Truth Social in October 2021 in an effort to stand up against Big Tech, which Trump feels is censoring him.

Who Can Sign Up to Truth Social?

Anyone with an iPhone based in the United States can download and use Truth Social. However, hundreds of thousands of people appear to have been added to a waiting list, which suggests a high level of demand that the company isn't capable of handling.

Where Can You Download Truth Social?

At the time of writing, Truth Social is only available on the Apple App Store, with plans to launch an Android version "soon,", according to the Truth Social website.

Is Truth Social a Copy of Twitter?

Twitter User Interface

Many people who have downloaded Truth Social so far have said that it looks almost identical to Twitter. While the company has not admitted to copying Twitter, Truth Social was created using an open-source license from a company called Mastodon.

Why is this significant? Mastodon is an open-source, decentralized social media platform that was also initially created as an alternative to Twitter.

Can Truth Social Compete With Mainstream Social Media Platforms?

Although Truth Social reached the number one spot on the App Store on day one, there's no guarantee that this success will continue in the long term.

Trump is known for posting controversial views on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, so people could be downloading the app purely to see what he has to say. Especially as he's been off the grid for a while since most mainstream social media apps banned him.

Only time will tell whether enough people ditch their usual social media platforms in favor of Truth Social.
