Trello's simplicity and flexibility make it powerful. It can serve as a repository for ideas, a to-do list, or a workflow you design. It's very likely that you manage multiple Trello boards for different purposes and use them for all the above.

Here are some clever tricks to efficiently work with multiple boards in Trello. You can move cards, link boards, and automate things.

How to Move Cards Between Trello Boards

There are different Trello boards that serve different purposes. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be connected. It is easier to move your cards instead of creating duplicates on several Trello boards. For example:

  1. You can see this ‘History of memes’ card here. And you want to move it to a different board.

  2. All you have to do is right-click on the card and select the Move option.

Having learned how to move cards between boards, you now want to switch boards quickly as well. This way, you can bookmark boards so that you can easily access them when you need to.

Let’s see an example. Suppose you want to link two boards, so you can access both of them quickly. Here, we have two boards—Work and Work in Progress. You’d like to link the work board with the Work in Progress board. To do this:

  1. Click on the Show Menu button on the right-hand side of the screen. Then click More.

  2. You’ll see a Link to this board option. Below this the link to that board will appear.
  3. Copy that link.

  4. Back on the Work in Progress board, create a new list. Keeping in mind that this list contains links to other boards.
  5. Create a new card and paste the link on it. Now there is a dedicated card that serves as a link to the work board. Trello automatically creates a thumbnail of the board, so it’s super easy to find. Now you can access that board while working on another board.

  6. Let's say you don’t want to see the thumbnail. You can right-click on the thumbnail and select Convert To Regular Card. This will remove the thumbnail, and you’ll only see the link.

Similarly, you can copy the link to the Work In Progress board and paste it on the work board. That’ll keep both the boards connected.

Now, every time you move a card to this list, it’ll automatically move to the other board and the specified place.

For example, support desks often receive requests that are best handled by sales teams. Linking those Trello boards and setting up swaps between them can boost productivity. With one card, your team will see email history and replies.
