There's been a lot of attention on how big tech mines our data and sells it to advertisers, who then target us with specific ads tailored to our interests.

The interesting thing about dating apps is that they also sort of do the same thing, except they share the data with you and, in doing so, give you the ability to swipe right or left on people based on shared interests.

In this regard, if you plan on attending a music festival this year, Tinder is interested in helping you find someone who wants to go as well. Here's how.

Tinder Relaunches Festival Mode

Tinder has re-launched its ‘Festival Mode’ feature just in time to take advantage of Summer, the party season.

According to Tinder, 61% of singles say they've become friends, or more, with people they met at a music festival or concert. Its Festival Mode feature is designed to exploit this by allowing Tinder members to find matches among fellow members who are also fellow festival-goers at least one month before the show.

Festival Mode will feature over 20 festivals worldwide, such as the Governor's Ball, EDC Las Vegas, Stagecoach, Lollapalooza in Paris, Berlin, and Stockholm, and Festival X in Australia.

How to Get Involved

Festival Mode is Live in Tinder Explore. When you navigate to the Explore page, you can see who’s going where, match, and chat before heading to the Festival. In order to optimize your experience, do the following:

  1. Open the Tinder app on your phone and tap the search icon at the bottom of the screen. This is the Explore tab.
  2. Search for the Festival Mode card and match with it.
  3. Add the festival badge to your profile.
  4. Select the festival you are interested in, and start swiping for potential matches with people listed under the festival.

There is also a "Festival Goers" area where you can meet and match with users who may not necessarily be going to the listed festivals but are attending other festivals or are just attracted to the scene.

Tinder Bets the Pandemic Is Behind Us

Tinder was severely affected by the pandemic, which forced it to scramble for ways to keep dating alive remotely. Understandably, Tinder is eager to move beyond that time and is betting Festival Mode will be needed again this summer and beyond as people start returning to live events.

"People around the world are returning to festivals in record numbers, and Tinder is helping those fans connect in a new way before the show,” said Maureen Ford, Live Nation's president of national and festival sales.

With that, we're all hoping that 2020's global catastrophe is well and truly behind us, and today, we're looking towards a bright future with a Tinder Match.
